Dennis Kucinich already off to a bad start
So I read an article somewhere online today about Dennis Kucinich. Basically, he’s filing complaint with the FCC against CNN. He previously filed complaints against several other networks for not including him in their debates. He also filed a lawsuit against the Texas Dem Party for not including him on the ballot because he refused to sign the Oath of Loyalty and commit to supporting whichever Dem won the party’s nomination.
This concerns me from a Presidential candidate on two different levels.
First, there is the issue of protecting Constitutional rights and individual liberties. The freedom of the press and the freedom to assemble/organize are two basic rights and liberties. To me, it would therefor seem that anybody who hopes to take an oath to uphold the Constitution as the Commander in Chief should respect two things. First, the media’s right to report on, and offer airspace to, who they want and what they want. It’s not the government’s place to tell networks who to include in their debates. Second, a political party’s right to organize however it wants. If they want to set requirements for membership, or inclusion in certain aspects, that’s their choice.
Secondly, I’m curious to see if anyone out there in the blogosphere has more methodically evaluated how much money Kucinich has cost taxpayers in litigation and beauracratic costs associated with his whining. Way more than I care to think about. Just imagine what he’ll do if he’s elected.
